EXPLOSION HITS ARMY STORAGE IN OGUN.
An explosion hits a storage building at the Nigerian Army’s Ilese Barracks in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, in the early hours of Thursday, August 14, 2025. The blast triggered a fire outbreak, prompting immediate response efforts from local fire services and military personnel.
Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele confirmed the incident, describing it as a “minor” explosion. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and the incident resulted in no reported injuries. However, the explosion caused significant damage to the building and some stored materials.
According to him, the explosion occurred within the storage facility of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.

Troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment quickly responded, working alongside the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service to contain the fire. Their swift actions prevented the situation from escalating further
A detailed assessment is currently underway to determine the extent of material loss. The Nigerian Army has launched a thorough investigation to establish the cause of the explosion and to implement measures that will prevent future incidents.
