ASSAULTED NYSC MEMBER IN ANAMBRA SPARKS OUTRAGE.
The assault on a National Youth Service Corps member, Jennifer Elobor, has drawn widespread condemnation.
THE STORY:
Local security operatives from the Operation Udo Ga-Achi, known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, attacked her in Anambra State. This incident occurred in the Oba Community of Idemili South Local Government Area. The operatives accused her and fellow corps members of being fraudsters while conducting a search at their accommodation. This search escalated and she was assaulted.
This peculiar incidence has sparked outrage in the country, and many institutions has taken actions.
THE RESPONSE:
The Anambra State Government responded promptly. They arrested the vigilante operatives involved in the assault. The government is currently investigating the incident, and we hope justice is served accordingly.
Furthermore, NYSC expressed deep regret over the incident. They described the actions of the vigilante group as unacceptable and dehumanizing. NYSC Acting Director, Caroline Embu, emphasized that there is no justification for such behavior. The organization promised to support the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria Police Force. They aim to ensure justice for the assaulted NYSC member and others affected.

Additionally, the Nigerian Bar Association also condemned the assault. They called for the prosecution of those responsible for this inhumane act. The NBA praised the Anambra State Government for taking swift action. They insisted that the perpetrators of the assaulted NYSC member in Anambra must face justice to deter future abuses. According to the statement published today by President of NBA, Afam Osigwe,
“Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done, to serve as both redress for Ms. Elobor and deterrence against similar abuses in Nigeria.”
NYSC has committed to providing psychological assistance to Jennifer Elobor. They recognize the trauma she experienced during the assault. The organization reiterates its dedication to the safety and welfare of all corps members across the nation. They encourage the public to ensure the security of corps members in their communities.
