D’TIGERS KNOCKED OUT OF AFROBASKET.
D’Tigers, Nigeria’s basketball team, has been eliminated from the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket championship.
They suffered a 91-75 defeat against Senegal in the quarterfinals held at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda in Angola. This match marked the ninth meeting between the two nations, with Nigeria previously winning five.

They had a strong start, edging the first quarter 24-23. However, the second quarter proved challenging. Senegal’s Jean-Jacques Boissy dominated, leading his team to a 30-18 advantage during that period. By halftime, Senegal held an 11-point lead.
As the third quarter began, Senegal intensified their efforts. They outscored D’Tigers 23-13, further extending their lead. In a valiant effort, D’Tigers fought back in the final quarter, winning it 20-15. Unfortunately, their comeback fell short.
Throughout the match, D’Tigers attempted 73 field goals but only managed a 35.6 percent success rate. The team secured 35 rebounds, recorded 14 assists, eight steals, and three blocks. In contrast, Senegal achieved a 47.1 percent success rate on 70 field goal attempts. They also grabbed 53 rebounds and committed 16 turnovers.
Co-captain Ike Nwamu led D’Tigers with 15 points. Stan Okoye, Caleb Agada, and Martins Igbanu contributed 14, 12, and 12 points, respectively. Senegal’s Brancou Badio shone brightly, scoring a game-high 32 points. Jean-Jacques Boissy added 19 points, while Moustapha Pape-Diop chipped in with 14 points.
This loss marks the end of D’Tigers’ journey in the AfroBasket championship.
