In addition to the cars, the command seized a substantial amount of contraband. They confiscated 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice, equivalent to over seven truckloads. Furthermore, authorities seized 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa, commonly known as marijuana, and 105 used tires. The total duty paid value of all these seizures reached N1,401,531,923.95.
Comptroller Godwin Otunla, the head of Ogun 1 Area Command, provided details during a briefing in Idiroko. He emphasized the command’s commitment to combat smuggling and the negative impact of economic saboteurs on the nation’s economy and security. Otunla stated, “We will not relent in our efforts.”
In July 2025, the command generated a total revenue of N45,054,191.00. This amount shows a significant increase compared to the N35,327,852.00 recorded in July 2024, representing a growth of 27.47%. Otunla attributed this success to improved monitoring and stakeholder engagement.
As part of inter-agency collaboration, Otunla handed over the seized drugs to the Commander of the NDLEA, Idiroko Special Command, Ekundayo Williams, for further investigation.
He reiterated that the fight against smuggling is a collective effort. The command will continue to focus on collaboration, intelligence sharing, and innovation.
Otunla issued a stern warning to smugglers and their accomplices. He assured that the command remains vigilant and will not back down. “No matter how sophisticated your tricks are, our officers will thwart your attempts,” he stated.
He commended the dedication of the command’s operatives and thanked other security agencies and local communities for their cooperation. Their support has been vital in providing credible intelligence for successful operations.
