FLOOD DISASTER IN INDIA.

Flood disaster in India

The second deadly flood in India occurred yesterday.

Indian rescuers continue to search for victims after the deadly flood swept through Chisoti village in Indian-administered Kashmir, killing at least 60 people. Torrential rain triggered mudslides and flash floods on Thursday, August 14, 2025, leaving dozens unaccounted for, including Hindu pilgrims visiting a shrine.

Officials reported that a large makeshift kitchen, where over 100 pilgrims gathered, was completely washed away by the sudden cloudburst. Survivors described horrifying scenes as boulders and rushing water descended from the mountains.

Medical personnel at Kishtwar district hospital treated more than 100 injured individuals, many suffering from head injuries and broken bones.

Mohammad Irshadl, confirmed that 60 people had died, with 80 still missing. Rescuers faced challenges due to damaged roads and ongoing adverse weather conditions. The Indian army joined local teams, bringing emergency supplies and equipment to aid in the search efforts.

Floods and landslides often occur during the June to September monsoon season. However, experts warn that climate change and poor urban planning are exacerbating the frequency and severity of such disasters. Earlier this month, floods in Uttarakhand buried the town of Dharali, resulting in over 70 presumed dead.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the recent natural disasters during his Independence Day speech, expressing sympathy for affected individuals. He emphasized that both state and central governments are collaborating to provide assistance and resources.

As rescuers continue their search for flood victims in Chisoti, the community remains in shock. Videos shared online depicted dramatic scenes of destruction, with vehicles swept away and individuals trapped in damaged homes. The local government mobilized all available resources to manage the ongoing rescue operations and provide support to those affected.
