Graduation Parties Ban In Edo

Graduation parties ban has been implemented by the Edo State Government.

This reform will bring significant changes in the education sector of Edo State. Today they announced a ban on graduation parties for nursery and primary school pupils.

Additionally, the government introduced mandatory entrepreneurship training for junior secondary students. These reforms aim to enhance the quality of education in the state.

According to the Ministry of Education, these measures will take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session. The government seeks to promote stability and consistency in learning across schools. Under the new guidelines, siblings can reuse approved textbooks purchased by their older brothers or sisters. Each approved textbook will remain in use for four years before undergoing a review.

Furthermore, graduation ceremonies will now be limited to students completing Basic Education (Primary 1–JSS 3) and Senior Secondary 3 (SSS 3). However, modest celebrations will only be allowed at these levels. The government has outlawed prom parties altogether. Consequently, pre-basic and primary school pupils can no longer hold graduation ceremonies or parties.

In a notable policy shift, all JSS 3 students must complete compulsory entrepreneurship training before graduation. Starting next academic session, every JSS 3 graduate will receive two certificates. These include the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and a Skills Acquisition Certificate in their chosen trade subject.

The Ministry emphasizes that these reforms aim to ensure Edo students are academically sound and equipped with practical skills. This approach prepares them to thrive in a competitive job market. The government believes these changes will benefit students and enhance their future prospects.
